The Alicante Film Festival hosts the premiere of Un hombre de verdad this Wednesday, the debut feature film by director Liteo Pedregal, known for his work in short films.
The film tells the story of Guillermo, an eighty-year-old man accustomed to a comfortable life dependent on his wife, played by Valencian actress Inma Sancho. Her sudden death forces him to rethink his way of life and the macho behaviors he has maintained for years.
“"The most beautiful thing about the film is that this man gets lost, but he has a little female help to find another path."
Throughout the story, three women help the protagonist in his process of change. Among them is his daughter, played by Olivia Molina. The actress stated that “it’s beautiful to grow in this profession because you become more capable of playing characters that perhaps ten years ago you couldn't have done, not just because of age, but because of experience.”
The film addresses issues related to equality and justice through the protagonist's personal evolution. For the director, premiering the film in Alicante also has a personal component. Liteo Pedregal explained that “since I was very young I have spent summers in Alicante, the best little land in the world,” and assured that presenting the film there “is very pleasant and gives me great satisfaction”.
The screening at the Alicante Film Festival marks the first public exhibition of Un hombre de verdad, which will be released in cinemas on June 12.
