The May 1st demonstration returns to Alicante this Friday, with a call focused on defending wages, access to housing, and the protection of labor and democratic rights.

The CCOO and UGT unions have called for participation in the mobilization for International Workers' Day, which will begin at 11:00 AM from the steps of the IES Jorge Juan. The march is held under the slogan 'Rights, not trenches. Wages, housing, and democracy,' a motto with which the unions focus on the loss of purchasing power, the rising cost of housing, and the need to strengthen public services.

The call is part of the mobilizations planned in the Valencian Community, with events also in Valencia, Castellón, Elche, and Alcoy. In the center of Alicante, there will also be traffic disruptions due to the demonstration. The road closure is planned for Rambla de Méndez Núñez, between San Fernando and Rafael Altamira streets, from 08:00 AM to 10:00 PM. In addition, Vectalia will modify the routes of bus lines 2, 8, 10, 12, 13, 21, and 22 during the day.
The unions argue that the day should serve to protect the rights gained in recent years and demand new improvements. Their priorities include wage increases, reduction of working hours, control of overtime, and the fight against precariousness. CCOO and UGT also emphasize housing, as the price of rent and purchase has become one of the main problems for workers, young people, and families.
In addition to labor demands, the unions incorporate into May 1st the defense of public services, the improvement of occupational risk prevention, and the need to curb social setbacks in a context marked by the rising cost of living and international uncertainty.
