Alicante province leads the Valencian Community's 'Smoke-Free Beaches' Network, with 27 out of 45 participating municipalities, an initiative by the Directorate General of Public Health to foster healthier and more sustainable public spaces.

The initiative, driven by the Directorate General of Public Health of the Ministry of Health, aims to reduce exposure to tobacco smoke and encourage healthy lifestyle habits. Director General Begoña Comendador participated in the institutional event to award the 'Smoke-Free Beach' flag at Paradís beach in Villajoyosa, a municipality that recently joined the program.
Currently, the network includes 45 municipalities across the Valencian Community: 10 in Castellón, eight in Valencia, and 27 in Alicante. Comendador highlighted the commitment of local administrations to the health and quality of life of residents and visitors.
During the event in Marina Baixa, representatives from the Marina Baixa Health Department also participated, including manager Beatriz Massa and Public Health Director José Vicente Pascual, along with council members from the Villajoyosa City Council.
Previously, the Director General visited the Public Health Center in Benidorm, emphasizing the importance of adapting public health to the specific characteristics of the territory and reinforcing Marina Baixa's image as a tourist destination.
Comendador highlighted strategic areas such as food safety and epidemiological surveillance, in coordination with other organizations for the early detection of potential health alerts.
