The operation, dubbed Cabo, led to the dismantling of a Lithuanian-origin network specializing in stealing low-mileage cars. These vehicles were then manipulated and reintroduced into the legal market, generating significant financial profits.
In total, six people have been arrested in the provinces of Malaga, Almeria, and Alicante. The latter was a key operational hub for the criminal enterprise. The investigation, which lasted over three months, revealed that the organization's members were highly structured, with roles divided among vehicle theft, concealment, and subsequent sale.
To date, officers have recovered 13 stolen cars, which have already been returned to their rightful owners. The vehicles were primarily stolen in the province of Malaga, chosen for their low mileage to maximize their resale value.
After being stolen, the cars were moved to various locations where they were hidden for a period before undergoing a "makeover" process. This involved changing license plates, VINs, and documentation. Once modified, the vehicles were sold back into the legal market in both Spain and other European Union countries.
During the operation, the National Police seized forgery materials, tools for vehicle theft, computer software, and cash. Of the six arrested individuals, four have been remanded in custody, and the investigation remains open, with further arrests not ruled out.
