Rocío Gómez, who served as Urban Planning councillor in the Alicante City Council, resigned on January 30 following the controversial allocation of public protection housing (VPO) to officials from the Popular Party and municipal civil servants. After her departure from the council, led by Luis Barcala, the publication of her asset declaration in the Official Gazette of the Province of Alicante has revealed a patrimonial increase of approximately 170,000 euros.
In her initial declaration in 2023, at the beginning of her term, Gómez reported real estate assets valued at 22,309.45 euros and other assets totaling 25,773.37 euros, with a liability of 4,260.79 euros in credits. However, the new declaration shows real estate assets valued at 202,682.03 euros, according to cadastral value, and other assets for 14,246.93 euros. This sum brings her total assets to 216,928.96 euros, resulting in a net increase of 168,846.14 euros.
The former councillor was one of the beneficiaries of the protected housing in the 'Les Naus' residential complex in Alicante, a case currently under investigation by a city judge. The Prosecutor's Office has indicated that there are signs of alleged crimes of prevarication and fraud in these allocations, which benefited individuals linked to the PP and high-ranking local officials.
