The Sierra del Maigmó, one of the most important green lungs of the southern regions, has been the scene of a forest fire that started this afternoon. According to the Generalitat's Emergency Coordination Center, the affected area is near the Racó de la Creu.
The fire alert was received at 5:16 PM, and the first helicopter to arrive at the scene quickly detected three different foci. Due to the complex terrain, which is difficult for ground vehicles to access, a large aerial deployment was immediately activated to take advantage of the remaining daylight hours.
In total, five aerial units have been deployed, including two helitransported units. In addition, three fire brigades from the Alicante Consortium and two forest fire brigades have joined the extinction efforts, operating with two fire engines to try to contain the advance of the fire.
The Sierra del Maigmó extends through several municipalities in the regions of l'Alcoià, l'Alacantí, and Vinalopó, standing out for its ecological and scenic value. Authorities continue to work intensely to control the situation.
