The El Campello City Council, through its Department of Social Services, has approved a new Strategic Social Volunteering Plan, a key initiative to strengthen community cohesion and care for the most vulnerable people in the municipality.
This proposal, led by councilor Mari Carmen Alemañ, represents a significant step in El Campello's commitment to fostering citizen participation and solidarity. The plan focuses on placing people at the center of actions, channeling residents' efforts towards concrete initiatives that improve local quality of life.
“
"This plan is born with a clear idea: to put people at the center, and to channel the solidarity of our neighbors towards concrete actions that improve life in our municipality. We are not starting from scratch, but rather recovering an experience that worked in El Campello and adapting it to the current reality, with more structure, more security, and more social impact."
The new social volunteering model will be developed under a stable, coordinated, and professionalized municipal structure. This organization will guarantee the training, support, and protection of all participants, ensuring useful, responsible, and well-organized volunteering that complements public services and fosters community building.
The plan includes a portfolio of specific programs in the social and community sphere, designed to address challenges such as unwanted loneliness, support for children, and social inclusion. Notable initiatives include accompanying elderly people in daily tasks, intergenerational educational support and healthy leisure, coexistence and inclusion of new residents, the creation of a neighborhood care network, a "time bank" for mutual aid, and intergenerational digital social volunteering to reduce the digital divide.
“
"We are talking about neighbors helping neighbors, young people learning from older people, and older people relying on young people. That is the model of municipality we want."
To strengthen collaboration with local entities, the plan incorporates participation mechanisms such as the Municipal Social Volunteering Council and the Social Volunteering Table. Furthermore, it establishes a clear path for volunteers, with training, support, and recognition. Those interested in participating can now find the registration form on the city council's website.
