The absence of a contract for managing advertising on El Campello's urban furniture has allowed various companies to advertise in these spaces. Some businesses have even paid for this advertising, contacting a phone number displayed on the supports themselves with the message "Your Ad Here."
One company, initially claiming to be the former service provider, stated it continued operations pending a new tender, citing slow administrative processes. However, a second inquiry revealed this company was not the one with the contract, and it declined further comment.
After the situation became public, advertisements on several mupis and bus shelters were removed overnight. The Councilor for Public Roads, Marcos Martínez, indicated that the contact number corresponds to a company that previously held a contract and stressed that the advertising supports in question are not listed in the municipal inventory.
For his part, the mayor, Juanjo Berenguer, stated in the February plenary session that the tender document for external advertising was being drafted and that bus shelters, which do appear in the inventory, would be part of the bidding process. The City Council has announced it will request a comprehensive report from its head of service to clarify the situation.
The municipal group Vox El Campello has expressed concern over the continued operation of advertising supports without a contract, which could have resulted in a decrease in municipal revenue. They have requested detailed information on the reasons for the contract's absence and plans for service regularization, urging the implementation of a transparent and compliant contracting procedure.
Similarly, EU-Podem, which first alerted to the irregular use, requested the opening of an administrative file to identify the individual or entity managing these spaces and for the Local Police to investigate the facts to verify any economic compensation.
