The Hospital General Universitario Doctor Balmis de Alicante has achieved CUDERMA certification, a recognition that endorses excellence in psoriasis patient care, positioning it as a regional and national benchmark.

This Alicante center has become the first in the Valencian Community and the second in Spain to obtain quality certification for Comprehensive Dermatological Care Units (CUDERMA). This accreditation highlights the comprehensive approach to psoriasis, a chronic inflammatory disease affecting approximately 2.5% of the Spanish population.
The certification, granted by the Spanish Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, recognizes the quality of care, research activity, and multidisciplinary approach of the Comprehensive Psoriasis Patient Care Unit. The evaluation process included 53 quality indicators, 34 of which are basic and 19 are excellence-related, linked to aspects such as therapeutic adherence and research.

"This recognition drives us to maintain continuous improvement and to advance in a model of comprehensive, coordinated care focused on the needs of people with psoriasis."

The Comprehensive Psoriasis Patient Care Unit, which is part of the Dermatology Service, conducted approximately 2,000 consultations and provided follow-up to about 700 patients over the last year. The Dermatology Service as a whole attended over 16,300 external medical consultations at the hospital and over 18,000 at specialty centers, in addition to over 10,600 nursing consultations.
The management of this disease requires multidisciplinary care, which is why the unit works in coordination with specialties such as Rheumatology, Digestive, and Hospital Pharmacy. This model allows adapting care to the needs of each patient and reinforcing not only clinical treatment but also improving quality of life and access to innovative therapies.
The CUDERMA program, promoted by the Spanish Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, aims to recognize dermatological units that guarantee the best possible care for psoriasis patients, promoting excellence and continuous improvement in clinical practice. The certification has been evaluated by SGS, a company specializing in testing, inspection, and certification.
