Approximately 70 people gathered at La Albufereta beach in Alicante to denounce the severe pollution of the bay due to wastewater discharges and demand urgent solutions from the authorities.

The protest began with participants symbolically covering themselves in mud to highlight the effects of the pollution. This was followed by a gathering where a manifesto was read.
A document distributed during the event warns that the bay of Alicante is suffering severe contamination due to deficiencies in sanitation and treatment systems. According to the manifesto, this leads to untreated wastewater being discharged into the sea during rain episodes, as well as water from treatment plants that is not reused.
The manifesto also states that these discharges affect protected marine areas within the Natura 2000 Network, including the zones of Cabo de l'Horta-El Campello and Tabarca, and calls for greater administrative involvement to address the issue.
Key demands include the urgent correction of deficiencies in the sanitation and treatment infrastructure of Alicante and El Campello, the construction of new facilities to prevent discharges through overflows, adapting system capacity to population growth, and promoting the "Vertido Cero" (Zero Discharge) project.
Organizers emphasized the need to raise awareness about this problem, which has been denounced for years by citizen platforms and neighborhood associations. The event concluded with a call for a "living sea" and "clean, unpolluted coasts."
