The Foz do Rio Itajaí Metropolitan Region in Brazil has shown great interest in the public transport model developed in the Valencian Community, specifically in the integrated zone system TAM and the TRAM d’Alacant network. The institutional visit began at the Casa de las Brujas in Alicante, where the Director General of Transport, Manuel Ríos, met with the prefeito of Itajaí, Robison José Coelho, and other Brazilian representatives.
During the meeting, Valencian officials presented the characteristics of the public transport service operating in the city of Alicante, its metropolitan area, and neighboring municipalities. Subsequently, the delegation visited the TRAM d’Alacant facilities at La Marina, where they toured the Command Post and learned about the management system of the tram lines.
The Brazilian representatives highlighted their interest in the transformation and modernization process of the Alicantinian railway network, which has evolved from the old connection between Alicante and Dénia into a metropolitan transport infrastructure with broad territorial coverage. Key aspects such as service operation, mobility planning, and incorporated technological improvements were also analyzed.
The Brazilian delegation explained that the Foz do Rio Itajaí Metropolitan Region plans an expansion and modernization of its public transport system in the coming years, for which it is studying international experiences. The Alicantinian model has been one of the European examples that has generated the most interest due to its capacity to connect different municipalities through an integrated system. The Brazilian region shares similar territorial and demographic characteristics with Alicante and the Marina Baixa.
