This initiative, part of the hospital's infrastructure improvement plan, aims to enhance the autonomy of individuals, especially those with reduced mobility or who are elderly. The new infrastructure addresses a daily need in a building that handles a significant portion of the hospital's care activities.
The project involved an investment exceeding 113,500 euros and resulted in the construction of an 80-square-meter ramp, designed with a slope adapted to accessibility standards. The primary goal has been to guarantee non-discriminatory, independent, and safe access for all individuals visiting the center.
Furthermore, the pathway incorporates non-slip materials on the pavement to reduce the risk of falls and facilitate movement. It also features floor-level lighting and LED strips on the handrails, allowing for optimal use at any time of day. Economic Director, Engracia Mira, highlighted that the ramp was designed to be integrated into the environment, respecting existing vegetation and creating a winding, pleasant route, complete with benches and canopies for rest.
“"We are making a great effort to transform our health department in terms of modernization and humanization of infrastructures, as excellent healthcare must be accompanied by equally adequate facilities."
Soriano added that accessibility improvements positively impact the experience of patients, companions, and professionals, especially in a building that handles over 380,000 consultations annually. With this initiative, Hospital Doctor Balmis reinforces its commitment to more accessible, safe, and user-adapted facilities.
