Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) has announced that the Alicante TRAM will facilitate travel early in the morning on April 16, the feast day of Santa Faz. The objective is to help residents of the province travel to the capital to participate in the traditional pilgrimage to the monastery, located eight kilometers from the city center.
The frequencies of Line 3 (Luceros-El Campello), implemented since last year, will allow thousands of Alicantinos to travel early to the city center. From El Campello, it will be possible to travel to Alicante at 5:40 AM, 5:50 AM, 6:10 AM, 6:20 AM, 6:40 AM, 6:50 AM, and 6:55 AM on Line 3. Additionally, Line 1 (Luceros-Benidorm) will have a stop in El Campello bound for the capital at 5:25 AM, 5:55 AM, and 6:25 AM. Line 2 will operate in double composition to increase available seats, with departures every five, ten, or twenty minutes between 5:00 AM and 7:00 AM.
Line 3 units will optionally stop at all stations and halts between El Campello and Luceros to pick up the maximum number of people. The closest station to the starting point of the pilgrimage, the Co-cathedral of San Nicolás de Bari, is the underground Mercado station. For the return journey, the nearest Line 3 stations are Campo de Golf, Costa Blanca, and those located on the coast of San Juan and Muchavista.
The return to the towns in the province will be covered by the usual TRAM service, as arrivals in the capital are always staggered. However, users should be aware of the 80% minimum services decreed by the competent labor authority due to the strike called by a train drivers' union for Santa Faz day. The strike periods are between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM, between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM, and between 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM. The initial displacements of pilgrims will not be affected.
