Alicante City Council has presented the preliminary draft for the renovation of La Montañeta square and its underground car park, with an estimated investment of 2.5 million euros.

Alicante City Council has released the preliminary draft for the renovation of La Montañeta square and its underground car park for public exhibition. Key new features include improving the pedestrian connection to the facade of the Treasury delegation building and the Parroquia Nuestra Señora de Gracia, facilitating transit towards Ángel Lozano street. A children's play area and a new green zone will also be introduced.
The intervention also includes the renovation of the square's pergola and skylight. Furthermore, pre-installation for the placement of the Social Nativity Scene during Christmas is planned. These improvements will extend to the underground car park, where parking bay sizes will be increased to accommodate current vehicles, and waterproofing will be enhanced to prevent leaks stemming from the square's condition. The car park's fountain and skylight will also be renovated.
The City Council initially approved this preliminary draft on Tuesday, May 12, submitting it for public information for one month. Concurrently, the economic-financial study has been definitively approved, establishing an estimated exploitation fee of 8.5 million euros for the next 15 years of the concession. Once the public exhibition period concludes, the project awaits pronouncements from the relevant bodies of the Generalitat Valenciana.
The Councilor for Urban Mobility, Carlos de Juan, highlighted that firm steps are being taken towards tendering the project. He explained that the car park, which will revert to the City Council at the end of the current concession, is in good condition but requires intervention for the renovation of pavements, waterproofing, lighting, accessibility, and complementary facilities, given its intensive use with around 30,000 monthly vehicle entries.
