The majority of the Popular Party in the Alicante Provincial Council has rejected the PSPV-PSOE's request for the institution's former president to appear before the investigation commission concerning the trade voucher program.

The decision was made this Monday during the inaugural session of the provincial commission, which aims to clarify the management of the trade voucher program. The management of this program is currently under judicial investigation and led to the temporary arrest of the president of the Chamber of Commerce.
The commission's president and member of the Popular Party, Ana Serna, argued that the left-wing opposition is trying to create «noise» to «start the electoral campaign machinery». She added that her party does not want to interfere in a judicialized matter and that the Provincial Council's role was limited to promoting aid that boosted the economy during a difficult period, such as the Covid-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine, with local councils managing the funds.

Conversely, a socialist representative described it as «deplorable» that the former president of the Provincial Council was prevented from appearing, as they believe he was «the one convinced for all this institutional architecture that led to the management of the trade vouchers by the company» involved. A Compromís representative concluded that the Popular Party «does not want to investigate anything».
The trade voucher case, which led to the arrest of the president of the Alicante Federation of Commerce (Facpyme) on March 13, refers to alleged fraud in the management of aid to incentivize local consumption and commerce during 2022 and 2023. This aid was granted by the Provincial Council during the former president's tenure.
