The province of Alicante faces this May 1st with various union mobilizations combining general demands and specific territorial claims, focusing on wages, housing, and labor conditions.

The trade unions CCOO and UGT have called for demonstrations in several cities in the province of Alicante. The main message focuses on improving wages, access to housing, working hours, and employment conditions, but also incorporates nuances linked to the productive reality of each area.
In the city of Alicante, the demonstration starts at 11 AM from the steps of IES Jorge Juan to the Rambla de Méndez Núñez. Here, the union discourse has revolved around the need to improve wages, facilitate access to housing, and strengthen public services. CCOO has insisted that rising housing costs and widespread precarious employment mean that many workers do not earn sufficient income. Workplace accidents and the need to strengthen collective bargaining have also been highlighted.
These demands are joined by a critique of the province's productive model, with a significant weight of tourism and services, which, according to union organizations, conditions wages and job stability. In this context, the unions have called for progress towards greater economic diversification and better working conditions.
In Elche, where the demonstration also starts at 11 AM from Plaza de Barcelona, the demands include the impact of the industrial situation, especially in the footwear sector. Unions have warned of possible employment regulation files in the days leading up to the event and have called for measures to protect employment and strengthen worker training and re-employment. This is in addition to the demand for wage increases and improvements in collective bargaining in a sector under competitive pressure.
In the Vinalopó region, emphasis has been placed on occupational health, with the need to update risk prevention regulations and improve their compliance. Likewise, effective equality in the workplace has been among their demands, with special attention to the gender pay gap and unwanted part-time work.
In Alcoy, the demonstration, which starts from the Alameda, introduces issues related to the industrial structure into the union agenda, such as the gender gap in employment access and the need for training for an industry undergoing technological transformation. Unions have also demanded that public investments in industrial areas be linked to specific labor and wage conditions.
The day in the province is not limited to midday marches. In Crevillent, the early morning of May 1st will once again be marked by the 'Worker Arise' reveille, a call that combines tradition and protest starting at 5 AM, maintaining a practice that harks back to the origins of the labor movement in the town.
