The Alicante Lyric Company has achieved the highest score in the Alicante City Council cultural grant call for 2026 with its project for the zarzuela La Bruja.

The proposal stood out among the 62 projects submitted, consolidating itself as a key initiative for promoting the lyric genre in the city. This recognition coincides with the commemoration of the 175th anniversary of the birth of composer Ruperto Chapí, a fundamental figure in Spanish music.
The organization has noted that institutional support is vital for carrying out a production of great technical and musical complexity. The company already began the tribute events on March 28 with a gala at the Teatro Principal de Alicante, which brought together more than 800 spectators.

"Zarzuela is often considered a niche genre, but this resolution proves that when a project is presented with technical rigor, artistic quality, and social viability, lyric theater is capable of leading Alicante's cultural map."

The project will maintain its commitment to collaborating with educational centers in the province, a formula that yielded good results in previous productions. The goal is to bring disciplines such as singing, dance, and makeup to students, integrating the educational fabric into the staging of La Bruja.
