Titán, a dog trained for searching for live individuals in natural disasters, collapsed structures, or open natural spaces, passed away after a distinguished career. Among his most notable interventions were the earthquakes in Ecuador and Turkey, as well as the floods in Libya, in addition to numerous operations in the province of Alicante and the rest of Spain.
The relationship between the dog and his handler, a firefighter from the Elche park, was fundamental for the success of the missions. They spent practically the entire day together, creating a unique bond that allowed the handler to interpret any gesture from the dog as a crucial signal in locating people.
“"He lived up to his name."
Search dogs not only locate live individuals but also help confirm the absence of survivors, a fact that modifies the action strategy in emergency situations. The importance of Titán's work was such that the Fire Consortium created a plush toy inspired by him, used in emergencies with children to reduce their stress.
The Alicante firefighters announced the news of his passing via the social network X, highlighting his “impeccable service record” and remembering that this “very special companion” always lived up to his name.
