The local government, from the Popular Party (PP), approved this Tuesday, at the weekly meeting of the Local Board, the awarding of the technical assistance service. One of the contracts is for the drafting of the modification of the Public Service Project for Urban Passenger Transport by bus, awarded to the consultancy firm Ingartek Consulting S.L. for 66,550 euros.
The second contract, for 48,937.72 euros, has been awarded to A-Ingeniería Research and Consulting S.L. for the services of drafting the traffic and mobility study. These studies are fundamental for the pedestrianization and improvement of the Town Hall Square.
“"Alicante is moving forward with these works to definitively pedestrianize the square."
The external studies will define the alternatives for the redistribution of road traffic in the area, as well as the reconfiguration of routes and stops for the public bus transport service. This could imply solutions for buses passing through Rambla Avenue. However, no hypotheses about this reorganization have been anticipated until the studies are concluded.
The Urban Mobility councilor has highlighted that Alicante and its City Council continue to advance in the pedestrian urban mobility model in the city center. He recalled the pedestrianization of more than 25,000 square meters in the axis between the Explanada and the Central Market, and added that this process to gain walking spaces will continue in the Town Hall Square, with the project materializing throughout this year.
The contracts will allow determining the technical, functional, and operational viability of suppressing road traffic in front of the Town Hall Square, quantifying the repercussions on the main road network, urban public transport, and pedestrian and cyclist mobility, and including the necessary corrective measures to guarantee the overall functionality of the network.
