This will be the third, and in principle, final meeting between both institutions to address the future of this important green infrastructure. The event will be attended by prominent figures such as Minister Óscar Puente, the President of the Generalitat, Juan Francisco Pérez Llorca, and the Mayor of Alicante, Luis Barcala, along with other representatives of the municipal corporation.
The presentation will reveal the initial details of the urban plan, a result of the joint work of the administrations that form the Avant society. This entity is responsible for designing the reconfiguration of the land, following the completion of the railway access remodeling works in Alicante with the arrival of the AVE high-speed train.
Among the uncertainties expected to be resolved are the exact dimensions of the Central Park, its extent, design characteristics, the future of the Red Bridge, the organization of the railway station (which accommodates commuter, medium-distance, and high-speed trains), and solutions to connect the neighborhoods historically divided by the tracks: San Blas, La Florida, and Ciudad de Asís.
Furthermore, the proposal will clarify whether the tracks currently running above ground at the entrance to the terminal station will become entirely subterranean or if they will be integrated into a semi-underground layout, an option that would reduce investment and execution times. So far, it has only been anticipated that a terraced design with multiple levels has been chosen, allowing the Central Park to coexist with the railway, bus, and tram stations (the latter already under excavation) up to the vicinity of Avenida de Salamanca.
It should be noted that this presentation will not immediately lead to any administrative agreement. It is still unknown when the plan will be submitted for consideration by the plenary, a step prior to its evaluation and approval by the Generalitat. The detailed planning for this sector, known as Integrated Operation number 2, is expected to be voted on in the coming months, although a definite date for the start of the redevelopment works, which will require a bidding process to select the contractor, has not yet been set.
