Since this Saturday, Alicante and Albacete are a little closer on an emotional and cultural level, thanks to a tourism promotion day for the Manchegan capital. This initiative is taking place between the Town Hall Square and the Explanada de España, highlighting the importance of the ties that unite both cities.
“"Alicante welcomes you and sincerely thanks you for the affection that all of Albacete showed us during the coexistence of our candidates for Bellea del Foc last year, in which this agreement for tourist and cultural promotion materialized."
The mayor of Alicante has stressed that many families from La Mancha have settled in Alicante, and this day serves to reinforce the brotherhood and the multiple historical, cultural, and emotional ties that unite them. He also highlighted that Alicantinos lead the ranking of visitors to Albacete among all provinces in Spain, with almost 63,000 tourists in 2025, a 5% increase from the previous year. Furthermore, 50% of Albacete residents who acquire a second home outside their province do so in Alicante.
“"Albacete residents feel at home in this city of light, which is 'the best land in the world,' after many centuries of union and brotherhood."
The Albacete delegation, comprising eight folklore groups and some 300 people, filled the center of Alicante with music and color. The mayor of Albacete expressed his confidence that this "Manchegan embassy" will contribute to consolidating his city's positive tourism figures and emphasized that the agreement between both city councils helps to boost strategic sectors such as tourism and hospitality.
The day began at 10:30 AM with the official reception at the Town Hall, followed by a parade of folklore groups and the Albacete Municipal Symphonic Band to the Concha de la Explanada, where they offered several performances. Subsequently, the delegation returned to the Town Hall Square to celebrate, starting at 2:30 PM, a Manchegan gastronomic exhibition. This included the preparation and tasting of typical gazpachos for about a thousand people, 'moje manchego,' and 'miguelitos,' the well-known puff pastry and cream dessert. A cutlery workshop was also scheduled to learn firsthand about this activity, which is very representative of Albacete's industry and tradition.
