The major theatre event of the Marina Alta region, the Dénia City Theatre Festival, raises its curtain for its 35th edition this Thursday. The festival begins with the local group GrocNo, under the direction of Johanna Alonso, who will present their comedy «Juntitos pero sin Ella». This performance opens a program that has undergone a last-minute modification.
The group EseOesE Teatro, from Orba, has been added to the lineup just days ago to replace the Argentinian company Fata Morgana. The latter had to cancel their participation due to personal reasons preventing them from travelling from Argentina, despite still appearing on previously printed promotional materials.
«Juntitos pero sin Ella» is a play by Johanna Alonso, who previously achieved success in 2025 with «El amor tiene fecha de caducidad». The group GrocNo now has the responsibility of inaugurating the Festival with this new piece, which promises humour and exaggerated, fictional situations.
For its part, EseOesE Teatro premiered their play «Deseo» two weeks ago in Orba, written and directed by Sonia González. The director of the Festival, Mario Osmar Pássero, has highlighted its provocative and transgressive style, with biting humour, making it ideal for the session on June 11th.
Other groups from the region will also participate: Lolailo Troupe, from Ondara, will present «I vosté on va?» on Sunday the 7th, a comedy about waiting in an airport. On the 12th, Stres Quatre, from Albalat dels Sorells, will offer the comic-musical piece «Que 20 años no es nada», featuring actor Jordi Tamarit.
The Festival also includes the one-person show «La danza de la ira» with actress Marian Li on the 5th, and «La libertad se toma» by Colectivo Soberanas on the 6th. The closing ceremony will be on Saturday the 13th with short performances by students from the Comarcal Theatre School (ETC), also directed by Mario Osmar Pássero.
Tickets for each session, starting at 8:30 PM at the Centre Social, cost five euros. The proceeds will be donated to the cultural association ACR Vicent Balaguer. Tickets can be purchased online at [https://mostradeniaevent.brite.com](https://mostradeniaevent.brite.com/) or at the box office one hour before each performance.
