The Casa de la Misericordia in Alicante is preparing to host the future International Museum with the tender for essential services for its opening, scheduled for the second half of the year.

The future International Museum of Alicante, located in the Casa de la Misericordia, one of the central spaces of the Las Cigarreras cultural complex, is moving towards its opening. Following the comprehensive rehabilitation of the building, which involved an investment of over 13 million euros, the government team has initiated two new tender processes to contract essential services for the launch of the new international exhibition space.
These tenders, recently approved, aim to cover security, building maintenance, and furniture provision services, with a total budget exceeding 3.3 million euros. The first tender is divided into two lots: the first, for private security, has an initial budget of over 2.3 million euros for an initial two-year term, extendable up to five. This service will include supervision of access to the museum, its halls, the exhibited works, and the rest of the building's facilities, such as a coworking space, training rooms, and a space linked to the Alicante Futura strategy.
The second lot of the same tender is dedicated to the comprehensive maintenance of the Casa de la Misericordia, with a budget of 780,404.02 euros to ensure the structural and infrastructural conservation, thereby preventing any risks to the exhibited works. The contract duration will also be two years, with extension options up to five.
The second tender focuses on the supply of furniture necessary to equip the museum, with a maximum budget of 196,810.96 euros. This sum is expected to cover the provision of lockers, counters, and benches for viewing exhibitions. These services are in addition to the 3.7 million already allocated for the museum's programming until 2029, contracted with Light Art Exhibitions.
The definitive opening date for the museum has not yet been set, although the second half of this year has been unofficially announced as the target timeframe. Before then, in addition to contracting the services now being tendered, the conceptualization of the space, awarded to Taso Desarrollos, and the execution of the conditioning project, awarded to Abala Infraestructuras, must be completed.
The museum will feature 780 square meters of exhibition space and a total of 1,600 square meters. It will have five halls for temporary exhibitions, which will be renewed every six months. Its creation is part of the cultural axis of the 'Alicante Nuevo Centro' project, alongside the Adda and the Plaza de Toros.
