During the closing of the II International Congress on Public Works and Civil Engineering Heritage, held at the ADDA, Pérez emphasized the fundamental role of infrastructure in the configuration and development of the territory. He noted that these works not only meet practical needs but also represent society's technical capacity and will for progress.
“"This legacy, the fruit of generations of engineers and technicians, constitutes a heritage that deserves to be known, preserved, and transmitted with the utmost rigor."
The institutional representative mentioned significant projects such as the Tibi and Guadalest Reservoirs, the Júcar-Vinalopó Transfer, the Tagus-Segura Transfer, and the Port of Alicante, as examples of the importance of engineering in the region. He underscored the relevance of hydraulic works for territorial balance.
Furthermore, Pérez highlighted the support of the Alicante Provincial Council for smaller municipalities in developing their own engineering works. He stressed that tourism is an essential part of the provincial identity and contributes to social, economic, and environmental development, insisting on the need to protect and care for heritage with professionalism.
“"The works form an intangible and emotional heritage for the two million Alicante residents who live in Spain's fourth-largest province."
The event, which took place at the Alicante Provincial Council Auditorium, was attended by various authorities, including the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, and the President of the College of Civil Engineers, Miguel Ángel Carrillo. The congress focused on the reconstruction of infrastructures affected by natural disasters, such as the one in the province of Valencia in October 2024.
