The Popular Party and Vox have decided not to request the appearance of the Minister of Housing, Susana Camarero, before the Valencian Parliament's investigative commission regarding irregularities in protected housing allocations in Les Naus, Alicante.
This decision comes despite the fact that the ministry led by Camarero oversaw the documentation of the property owners in the residential complex. The stance of the two right-wing parties suggests that an easy agreement with the opposition on the commission's work plan, which investigates the controversial allocations uncovered in late January by INFORMACIÓN, is unlikely.
“
"Camarero has no direct responsibility in the case; she already brought the allegedly irregular aspects of the allocations to the Prosecutor's Office and took the necessary measures."
Gutiérrez, the PP spokesperson on the commission, has argued that the minister bears no direct responsibility, as it was an official appointed by the Botànic who signed the document in question. This official was subsequently disciplined and suspended from employment and salary by the Generalitat after allegedly validating false data to allocate an apartment to his wife. The official's wife is an architect in the Urban Planning department of the Alicante City Council, an area previously led by former councilor Rocío Gómez, who resigned after it was revealed she was one of the beneficiaries.
For its part, Vox, through its spokesperson on the commission, Miguel Pascual, has also stated that it does not plan to summon the Minister of Housing. This means that if both parties agree on the work plan, Camarero will not have to appear. However, Pascual does not rule out requesting the appearance of the regional secretary of Housing, Sebastián Fernández, and the director general, Juan Antonio Pérez.
“
"We will not set red lines for appearances, but it will not be an open bar either."
The work plan, which must be submitted by the groups before April 30, will define the appearances. From the PP, Javier Gutiérrez has indicated that they will propose appearances similar to those of the commission already underway at the Alicante City Council, focusing on the council, the ministry technicians allegedly involved, and the beneficiaries connected to the City Council, including Mayor Luis Barcala. They reject, however, the appearance of high-ranking regional officials, arguing that they do not want a "spectacle".
Left-wing parties, PSPV and Compromís, have a broader view. José Díaz, PSPV spokesperson, plans to request the appearance of all 140 housing beneficiaries, as well as members of professional associations and trade unions, to analyze the Mazón Live Plan model. They also seek information on apartment swaps and suspicions in other localities. Díaz has stated that Carlos Mazón, Camarero, Barcala, María Pérez-Hickman, Rocío Gómez, and the implicated officials "must appear before the commission".
“
"Mazón and Camarero must be there from the beginning and must provide explanations."
For Compromís, María José Calabuig has indicated that they will summon those involved who have served in council departments, including the police officers who conducted inspections and representatives of the Les Naus cooperative. Furthermore, they believe that both the President of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, and Minister Camarero must appear. They will also request the appearance of the current President of the Generalitat, Juanfran Pérez Llorca, whom they accuse of "blatantly lying" about the case, and experts in construction, jurisprudence, and academia to analyze regulations and improve the social function of housing.
