Labora, the Valencian employment service, has announced a new call for aid for municipalities in the Valencian Community, including the province of Alicante, aimed at hiring unemployed women, with a special focus on those over 45 years old.
The first vice-president and minister of Housing, Employment, Youth and Equality, Susana Camarero, has defended this measure, highlighting the difficulties many women face in rejoining the labor market after a certain age. According to Camarero, administrations have a duty to provide new opportunities for these groups.

"People, and especially women, after a certain age, have more difficulties returning to the labor market, and administrations have the obligation to help them have a new opportunity."
This new aid program will allow local councils to promote the hiring of women with greater difficulties in labor market integration, with the aim of improving their employment options and facilitating their return to the workforce through public programs. The Generalitat, Camarero added, is committed to initiatives with a gender perspective and programs that also support the youth population.
The minister also recalled that Labora maintains other active support lines, such as aid for hiring unemployed young people in municipalities, a recently published edition with an investment exceeding 12 million euros. These programs seek to open up job opportunities for groups with special difficulties and promote first professional experiences for young people.
In her assessment of the labor situation, Camarero highlighted the decrease in unemployment in the Valencian Community during March, with 2,467 fewer people on the lists, a drop of 0.9%. In year-on-year terms, the reduction reaches 6.3%, bringing the total number of unemployed people to 288,162. These figures position the Valencian Community as the third autonomous community with the largest decrease in unemployment this month and consolidate three consecutive months among the regions with the best year-on-year evolution.
The decrease in unemployment has been recorded in all productive sectors and has benefited priority groups, with a reduction of 5.8% among women and 4.6% among those under 25 years old compared to the previous year. Furthermore, the Valencian labor market leads for the third consecutive month in the annual increase of self-employed workers and heads the growth in affiliation to Social Security, reaching a record figure of 2.26 million affiliated people.
