The city of Alicante and Toledo have formalized a tourist-cultural collaboration agreement, culminating in a massive 'cremà' (bonfire burning) that brought the spirit of the Hogueras (bonfires) festival to the heart of the Castilian-La Mancha city.

The twinning between both cities was staged last Saturday in Zocodover Square with the 'cremà' of the bonfire Sentir de día, vivir de noche. This event was part of the gatherings of the candidates for Bellea del Foc 2026, bringing together more than 5,000 people.
The mayor of Alicante, Luis Barcala, accompanied by his Toledo counterpart, Carlos Velázquez, signed the City Council's Book of Honor and endorsed the collaboration agreement. Barcala highlighted Toledo's character of tolerance as a hallmark and the value of experiences between territories sharing a festive spirit.

"This meeting has served to strengthen the bonds of union between both capitals, consolidating a lasting link."

The gatherings included the participation of the 81 candidates for Bellea del Foc, who took part in various acts such as parades, concerts, and a 'mascletà' with 50 kilograms of gunpowder. The 'cremà' of the monument, designed by José Manuel García 'Pachi', an eight-meter-high bonfire, symbolized the union between the two cities.
In the preceding days, nearly 10,000 people visited the bonfire at Paseo de Recaredo, which included references to the festivals of Alicante and its province. Adriana Vico, Bellea del Foc 2025, invited Toledo residents to visit Alicante in June to experience the Hogueras firsthand. The next event for the candidates will be on April 25 with the Candidates' Gala at Rambla de Méndez Núñez.
