The cities of Alicante and Toledo have formalized a sister city agreement and a tourism and cultural collaboration, culminating with the burning of the 'Sentir de día, vivir de noche' bonfire during the Coexistence Days of the Bellea del Foc 2026 Candidates.

The event took place in Toledo's Plaza de Zocodover, marking the final day of the coexistence activities. Alicante's mayor, Luis Barcala, accompanied by his Toledan counterpart, Carlos Velázquez, highlighted the significance of this weekend in a World Heritage City for fostering friendship among the 81 representatives from Alicante's districts.

"This weekend in a city considered a World Heritage Site allows for experiences and friendship among the 81 district representatives."

Luis Barcala · Mayor of Alicante
During the reception at Toledo City Hall, Barcala signed the Book of Honor and, in the Chapter House, signed the tourism-cultural agreement in the presence of the Bellea del Foc, her Ladies of Honor, and the Candidates. The Alicantine mayor emphasized that Toledo has made tolerance its hallmark for centuries and noted that this intense visit allows for learning about aspects of other cultures that share the festive spirit, albeit with different nuances.

"These days have strengthened the existing ties between both capitals and an indelible bond of sisterhood has been sealed."

Carlos Velázquez · Mayor of Toledo
The Bellea del Foc 2025, Adriana Vico, expressed pride in choosing Toledo for the coexistence days, bringing the spirit of the Hogueras to the city. She invited Toledans to visit Alicante next June for the festivities. The bonds of friendship were reinforced with the burning of the 'Sentir de día, vivir de noche' bonfire, a creation by José Manuel García 'Pachi', witnessed by over 5,000 people.
The bonfire, approximately eight meters high, featured the Costa Blanca Tourism Board logo and figures representing an Alicantine bride and a zaragüell, with allusions to the festivals of Alicante and its province. It was erected 'al tombe' with the help of the Bellea del Foc 2025 and her Ladies of Honor. The coexistence activities included an official photo, a parade in Alicantine bridal attire, a festive music concert, and a mascletà in Avenida Castilla-La Mancha, fired by Pirotecnia La Sagreña de Magán with 50 kilograms of gunpowder. The next event for the candidates will be the Candidates' Gala, on Saturday, April 25, at Rambla de Méndez Núñez.
