The Alicante City Council has launched an extraordinary cleaning and waste collection operation for the Santa Faz Pilgrimage and subsequent celebrations at San Juan Beach, mobilizing a large team and resources.

The plan, coordinated with the concessionary company Netial, includes 51 operators, 34 vehicles, and the installation of 140 containers. More than 50 services are planned to cover the Peregrina route, the hamlet of Santa Faz, Niza Avenue, and the sandy area where the 0.0 party is held.

"The operation aims to guarantee the cleanliness and proper condition of public spaces given the influx of over 300,000 pilgrims."

Rafael Alemañ · Councillor for Street Cleaning and Waste Management
The Councillor for Street Cleaning and Waste Management, Rafael Alemañ, highlighted that the operation will begin in the early hours of Thursday and will continue until the end of the events, with special attention to the surroundings of the Monastery of Santa Faz, Niza Avenue, and San Juan Beach. Alemañ appealed for citizen cooperation in the proper use of containers and litter bins.
To optimize waste management, 140 containers of 1,100 liters have been distributed at strategic points along the pilgrimage route, near the monastery, and in the beach's leisure areas. Additionally, specialized machinery such as screening tractors for sand, blowers, sweepers, mobile platforms, and press trucks will be used to expedite collection.
During the preceding week, a team of 15 operators carried out cleaning and conditioning tasks, including mechanical sweeping, hosing, clearing, and debris removal, especially around Dénia Avenue and the hamlet of Santa Faz. This year, an information point will be reintroduced at the Santa Faz bus stop to promote selective waste collection and the “Tú Haces Alicante” project, which reuses pilgrimage canes in traditional crops at Granja de Masphael, in Bacarot, and at the Seed Bank.
