This initiative, published on April 9 in the Official Gazette of the Valencian Government (DOGV), foresees the creation of two new development sectors. The main objective is to increase the available land for new industrial activities, consolidating Morella as an economic hub in northern Castellón.
The urban modification seeks, on one hand, to increase the population through economic revitalization and, on the other, to meet the current and future demand for industrial land. The council already has a favorable strategic environmental and territorial report for this action.
The expansion will affect two areas adjacent to the Les Casetes sector, located next to the N-232 road, at kilometer point pk-61. One of these areas, to the west of the industrial park, has a surface area of 16,584 square meters and is currently classified as undeveloped land due to its ecological and landscape importance. The other, to the east, covers 15,334 square meters and is also undeveloped land due to agricultural interest.
In total, the incorporation of 31,918 new square meters is planned, representing a 23.51% increase over the current surface area of the Les Casetes Industrial Park, which is 135,742 m². The proposal involves the reclassification of these two areas to make them developable land, allowing shared use of infrastructure with the existing industrial park and promoting orderly growth.
The project emphasizes that the land to be expanded is not floodable and does not pose a risk of landslides, with slopes lower than in other locations. Furthermore, it has been verified that it will not affect cultural heritage, nor protected animal or plant species, and that the location is consistent with the preservation of Morella's landscape.
Dispersing industrial zones across the territory is not consistent with the preservation of the rural environment and landscape. Likewise, the landscape preservation of Morella's walled historic center is incompatible with the establishment of extensions, in its vicinity, to house industrial uses.
