This initiative, presented by Mayor Rubén Alfaro and the Councilor for Public Space and Investments, José Antonio Amat, along with Rubén Llopis from Fobesa, will involve the replacement of all existing containers. Both the deposits in the recycling islands (paper-cardboard, packaging, and general waste) and those for organic waste, identified by their brown color, will be updated.
One of the fundamental pillars of the new model is the reinforcement of selective organic waste collection. Each brown container will be accompanied by another for general waste and will incorporate a key-operated opening system. This measure aims to ensure that only appropriate waste is deposited, thereby improving the quality of the organic fraction.
“"The model seeks to promote a more correct separation of waste for its specific treatment, in line with the guidelines of the Generalitat Valenciana and European circular economy objectives."
To facilitate citizen adaptation, the City Council will send informative letters to all households with detailed instructions on how to use the containers and how to request the key for the organic waste deposit. These keys can also be collected at Fobesa offices, located on Ramón Gorgé street, opposite the Jardín de la Música. Additionally, environmental educators will tour the city to provide direct information to residents.
The new service will include significant operational improvements, such as daily collection of brown and grey containers, increased frequency of waste removal, and periodic cleaning and washing of the deposits themselves. RFID technology will be integrated into all new containers to optimize service management and control. Organic and general waste containers will always be installed in pairs and, space permitting, in complete islands with all recycling fractions.
