This tender, allowing interested parties to submit their offers until May 11 at 12:00 PM, aims to cover the comprehensive execution of the performances, encompassing both artistic and technical aspects. The contract is structured on a 'risk and venture' basis for the awardee, meaning payment will come exclusively from ticket sales revenue.
An annual business figure of 110,225.45 euros has been established, calculated based on an occupancy rate of 75-80%, which aligns with the average of recent years. The tender specifications state that the Alcoy City Council will not make any direct financial contribution. The entire contract price will be covered by the concessionaire's share of ticket sales.
The contract is exempt from fees, both due to the cultural and social interest of the concession and to offset the low ticket prices, which are three and six euros depending on whether they are for school groups or adult audiences. The last campaign featured 213 performances and attracted 31,707 spectators.
This marks the third time the Betlem de Tirisiti performances have been put out to tender, as the City Council directly contracted them until 2022. The first two tenders, also for two years each, were awarded to the Alcoy-based company La Dependent, which has managed the performances since 1989, when the Betlem became municipal property. In 2002, the Generalitat Valenciana declared the nativity scene an Intangible Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC).
Alcoy has enjoyed the Betlem de Tirisiti performances since the late 19th century. Since 2006, it has been performed at the Teatre Principal, which hosts shows from mid-November, initially for school campaigns and groups, and then for the general public until January 5.
