The city of Alcoy is preparing to welcome around fifty European Modernism experts and professionals in September for two key events focused on promoting and studying this heritage.

Alcoy will become the center of attention for European Modernism next September when it hosts the international double event of the Réseau Art Nouveau Network (RANN) General Assembly and the European project New EUtopia. The event will bring together approximately 51 experts and professionals from sixteen European territories, aiming to work on the future of this architectural and cultural legacy.
The recent international symposium of RANN in Budapest and the working group meeting for the New EUtopia project, in which Alcoy participates, have served to finalize the details for this upcoming gathering. The Councilor for Tourism, Lorena Zamorano, and the Director of Tourism, Paola Pons, participated in these sessions, exchanging knowledge on Modernism and delving into the study of the history and theory of coverings in Art Nouveau buildings.
The New EUtopia project, co-financed by the Creative Europe program and running until 2027, seeks to use Modernism as a tool for cultural dissemination, urban transformation, and economic revitalization. For Alcoy, the action plan focuses on promoting the Modernista Fair, the historical legacy, creating a digital database, collecting images, and developing new audiovisual materials.

"Opening the city's doors to such a large group of international experts offers us a great opportunity to showcase the richness of our environment and history, and it allows us to project who we are and what we want for our city. Beyond the technical debates, the most beautiful thing is for residents to see how their history and streets become a benchmark for all of Europe, generating activity that stays here and helps us appreciate our surroundings even more."

The meeting will also serve to coordinate the continuity of current work lines and plan future international collaborations among the twelve member municipalities of the New EUtopia project and representatives from territories such as Terrassa, Reus, Palermo, Riga, Budapest, Turin, Târgu Mureș, Oradea, Darmstadt, Brussels, Mannheim, Wiesbaden, Nancy, La Chaux-de-Fonds, Aveiro, and Ljubljana.
