The ship has stopped in the city of Sagunt with the goal of raising awareness among citizens about the situation in the Caribbean country. The main mission is to raise funds for the purchase and shipment of solar panels to ensure the electricity supply for the intensive care unit of the Juan Manuel Márquez Pediatric Hospital, located in Havana.
During its stay at the port, the organization is opening the doors of the Astral vessel so that residents can learn about their work firsthand. According to mission leaders, the lack of electricity in Cuba is causing serious problems for healthcare activities, including the postponement of essential pediatric surgeries.
“"The goal of the project is to focus on the situation the country is experiencing and mobilize civil society to support the Cuban people."
Regarding the choice of Sagunt as a docking point, reports emerged about an alleged denial at the port of Valencia. However, sources from the Valencia Port Authority have denied any veto, clarifying that availability was offered at several ports and that Sagunt was the option finally chosen by the organization.
After its time on the Valencian coast, the ship will continue its route with planned stops in ports such as Malaga and Cadiz. At the end of the month, the expedition will reach the Canary Islands, where weather conditions in the Atlantic will be assessed before embarking on the final crossing to Cuba.
