The Generalitat Valenciana has declared the Moors and Christians Festivities of Sagunto as a Festival of Autonomic Tourist Interest, a recognition that values its tourist attraction and the preservation of Valencian traditions.

The distinction, signed by the Minister of Innovation, Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Marián Cano, highlights those celebrations that stand out for their ability to attract visitors and for their contribution to the conservation and dissemination of Valencian popular culture.
During the official reception, the Sagunto city council highlighted the work carried out for decades by the association, the comparsas, and all the people involved in consolidating these festivities. These are celebrated in honor of the Virgen del Remedio since 1989, on the last weekend of September and the first of October.

"The recognition speaks of the good work done throughout these years and represents an impulse to continue improving the festival. In some way, the excellence of our festivities is being recognized, and that pushes us to continue moving forward."

The Councilor for Festivities recalled that the declaration, achieved on March 7, was a very important milestone for the city, the result of 37 years of constant work. From the Tourism area, the impact of the recognition beyond the festive sphere was highlighted, pointing out its economic, social, and cultural repercussions for the city and encouraging the group to seek the declaration of National Tourist Interest in the future.
The president of the association thanked the institutional support and the collective effort that made the distinction possible. He also recalled the origins of the festival in 1989, when a group of people promoted the celebration. He highlighted the unique elements included in the declaration file, such as the Saguntine stew, the act of the Despullament del Moro in a Romanesque temple, and the Embassies, which take place before the Puerta de Almenara of the castle, of Islamic origin. The mayor emphasized the participatory nature of the festival, noting that it has succeeded in building community and a celebration open to everyone.
