The Santa Pola City Council has approved the initiation of the tender process for the third phase of the new cemetery's expansion works, which is expected to create 544 niches and 1,296 columbariums to meet the municipality's needs in the coming years.

This intervention, involving an investment of 979,702.03 euros, will be developed in an expansion area adjacent to the already completed phases, within the new cemetery grounds, located in the Valverde Bajo district. The project will cover an area of 2,742 square meters, integrating into a funerary complex that already exceeds 30,000 square meters.

"This expansion is located in the current new cemetery of Santa Pola, in the Valverde Bajo district, and focuses on an expansion area of 200 x 150 meters adjacent to the already completed phases on its northwest side, which means a new surface of 2,742 m2 in the overall space of the complex of about 30,000 m2."

Encarni Ramírez · Councillor for Cemeteries
The project includes the construction of four new plazas, each measuring 22 by 14 meters, where double niche panels and areas reserved for columbariums will be distributed. According to the councillor, this action will ensure the municipality's needs are met for the coming years, providing the cemetery with modern, accessible, and dignified services.
The expansion will also feature a new transit corridor connecting the four plazas with the current cemetery via the Plaça del Mar, the area located at the entrance of the enclosure. The design will maintain architectural coherence with previous phases, using natural stone finishes, such as white marble for headstones, and highly durable reinforced concrete structures.
In addition to the new burial units, the project incorporates the paving of corridors with troweled concrete, the installation of sanitation and rainwater drainage networks, as well as the pre-installation of public lighting. Measures are also planned to improve the environmental integration of the site, including runoff management and landscaped areas, along with compliance with accessibility regulations to facilitate the movement of people with reduced mobility throughout the new sector.
