A strong smell of marijuana alerted authorities in Elche, leading to the discovery of a chalet housing an illegal plantation and over 126 kilos of buds prepared for distribution.

The National Police, in collaboration with Customs Surveillance of the Tax Agency and the Elche Local Police, have dismantled a significant indoor marijuana cultivation in a dwelling in the Alicante town. The operation culminated in the arrest of one person and the seizure of a large quantity of drugs.
Investigations began on March 25, after agents perceived an intense smell of marijuana near the chalet. This circumstance led to the establishment of a surveillance operation on the property, where unusual movements were detected, and it was confirmed that the smell was noticeable from a great distance, clearly indicating the existence of an illegal plantation.
The following day, the situation escalated when investigators observed a van leaving the chalet with a suspicious load. Upon attempting to intercept the vehicle with the support of the Local Police, the driver ignored instructions and fled at high speed, initiating a pursuit. Finally, agents managed to stop the van and arrest its occupant.
Inside the vehicle, 13 raffia bags and seven large garbage bags were found, containing marijuana buds with a total weight exceeding 126 kilograms. Subsequently, during the search of the chalet, a large indoor plantation was discovered, equipped with all the necessary systems for hydroponic drug cultivation. Furthermore, it was confirmed that the installation was operating with an illegal connection to the electrical grid.
The detainee has been accused of smuggling, crimes against public health, and electricity fraud, and has been brought before the courts in Elche.
