The Gran Teatro of Elche will host the musical Sonrisas y Lágrimas (The Sound of Music), a new production by Theatre Properties that revives the classic by Rodgers & Hammerstein. The play will transport the audience to Austria in the 1930s, from a convent to the Von Trapp villa and the Alps. Performances will be on Friday at 8 PM, Saturday in two sessions (5 PM and 8:30 PM), and Sunday at 5 PM. Tickets can be purchased at the Gran Teatro box office or online.
The theater program also includes La última barraca, by the Agrupación Coral Dama de Elche, which will be performed on Thursday at 6 PM at La Llotja, with free tickets available at the Casa del Mayor. Additionally, L'Escorxador will host the musical tragicomedy Los reyes mendigos (The Beggar Kings), by the Asociación Príapa Teatro, on Friday and Saturday at 8 PM. This play addresses the struggle of marginalized people for bank ownership, exploring themes such as fear and dignity. Tickets are available at the Gran Teatro box office or online, and also at L'Escorxador box office one hour before the show for 10 euros. On Saturday, La Llotja will also offer the monologue Perdido en los 80. Menuda Movida at 8 PM.
In the cinematic section, the Cine Odeón, in collaboration with the Filmoteca Municipal, will screen the film Rental Family, set in Tokyo, from Wednesday 6 to Sunday 10. Cineforum sessions will continue with El juez (The Judge), followed by a discussion, and the screening of Si pudiera, te daría una patada (If I Could, I'd Kick You) with the Cineclub Luis Buñuel. For the youngest, the film Arco will be screened.
Music will also have its place with the Clásica Clarisas cycle, which will present a chamber and piano recital by the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Alicante, Óscar Esplá, on Thursday at 7:30 PM. On Sunday at 12 PM, Alonda Bentley will be the protagonist of the Conciertos mínimos de Las Clarisas. Furthermore, La Matinal will continue at the Rotonda del Parque Municipal, and activities will be organized in the neighborhoods and districts. The Museo de la Venida de la Virgen will open its doors to offer a tour of one of the municipality's most deeply rooted traditions.
