The Elche City Council has started installing new traffic lights at various points along Novelda Avenue to enhance road safety for pedestrians and drivers on one of the municipality's busiest arteries.

These actions, aimed at resolving three identified black spots, include the installation of the necessary infrastructure for the new traffic lights, such as foundations, poles, and connections to the municipal traffic control room. The Mobility Councilor, Claudio Guilabert, highlighted that the improvements respond to several neighborhood demands.

"We continue working to improve road safety in our municipality with actions that address three black spots where traffic light installation was necessary to regulate traffic and provide greater safety for pedestrians and vehicles."

The works are mainly focused on the intersections of Novelda Avenue with Carlos Antón Pastor, where accessibility improvements are also being carried out, including the creation of pedestrian ramps and sidewalk widening. Other intervention points are the intersections of Novelda Avenue with María García Ferrández and with Francisco Ruiz Bru and Joaquín García Mora, in addition to the area around Universidad Avenue with Francisco Rabal Street.
Although the planned execution period is six months, Guilabert noted that it is expected to be reduced to about four months, as these are very specific and manual operations. The works also include the adaptation of sidewalks and pedestrian crossings with accessibility criteria, the widening of sidewalks to improve visibility, and the installation of new traffic light systems with intelligent technology for detecting vehicles, buses, and pedestrians. The total budget for this action amounts to 210,000 euros.
