On the occasion of World Inflammatory Bowel Disease Day, the center has organized an event for patients and families to provide updated information on these chronic conditions. The meeting brought together nearly a hundred attendees.
The event, jointly organized by the hospital's IBD Unit and the Association of Patients with Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn's Disease of Valencia, featured participation from specialists in gastroenterology, nursing, and nutrition, as well as representatives from the association.
Dr. Mariana Fe García Sepulcre, head of the Gastroenterology Service, highlighted that these meetings "allow us to resolve frequent doubts and offer useful tools to patients and their families to improve their quality of life and daily disease management".
Dr. Nuria Jiménez, from the IBD Unit, emphasized the incorporation of "new and highly effective treatments, such as anti-IL23 and anti-JAK drugs, which we are already using in our patients with good results".
The Unit is implementing intestinal ultrasound within the Gastroenterology consultation itself, a tool that allows for more immediate assessment of the patient's condition and faster therapeutic decisions. "Having intestinal ultrasound in consultation allows us to assess the patient's situation more immediately and make therapeutic decisions more quickly, which is especially important in chronic diseases like IBD," stated Dr. García Sepulcre.
Furthermore, expert radiologists continue to perform advanced complementary studies such as contrast-enhanced ultrasound, pelvic MRI, and entero-MRI to define disease activity and potential complications at any given time, according to Dr. José Antonio Alarcón.
The event also included talks on basic aspects of the disease and its impact on women (by Dr. Lourdes Catalá), the role of nursing (with practical recommendations from nurse Rocío Candela), and a session on nutrition led by nutritionist Azahara Vela.
