The PP and Vox bipartisan government in Elche will introduce a school card with a QR code to guarantee free access to municipal pools, limited to children under 14 registered in the city, starting June 20.

The Elche City Council, governed by the PP and Vox bipartisan coalition, will implement a new measure to regulate access to municipal swimming pools during the summer. Starting from the opening of the facilities on June 20, only children under 14 years of age registered in the municipality will be able to enjoy free access through a digital school card. Until now, any child or adolescent in this age group had the right to subsidized access.
This initiative, presented by the Councilorships of Sports and Education, aims to address the issue of high attendance from users from other towns. According to municipal sources, many visitors come to Elche's pools because their own municipalities lack such services or have higher fees. The objective is to reverse the saturation that occurs during the summer months and prioritize residents who pay taxes in Elche.
The new digital school card, which can be obtained online from June 8 through the platform tarjetaescolar.elche.es, will generate a QR code. This code will allow access to the pools throughout the season. For students aged 15 to 18, a 50% discount will be applied. Current fees are 1.05 euros for a child's entry and 2.05 euros for adults, with options for passes and discounts for large families.
The Councilor for Education, María Bonmatí, detailed that this tool is being launched as a pilot program, with the intention of gradually extending it to other municipal services such as museums or sports facilities. In addition to encouraging use among local students, the measure will allow for the collection of precise data on facility usage, such as demand by time slots and age groups, which will aid in planning future investments. It is also considered a deterrent against vandalism.
This year, unlike the previous one, the preparation of the municipal pools will be simultaneous, and they will begin operating on June 20 until September 7. The exception will be the Ciudad Deportiva, which will open on June 30. One of the novelties will be the extension of the closing time until 8 PM, a demand repeatedly made by users.
Children's and adult swimming courses, as well as aquagym, have also been scheduled, with an increase in groups and places due to high demand. Registrations will begin on Friday, June 5, through the Sports website. The governing team asserts that these measures reinforce the social and family character of the facilities.
