The "Ciutat d Elx" Congress Center will host the Workers' Trade Union Council (CSO) II Congress, starting at 10:00 AM. Since its legalization in October 2019, CSO has distanced itself from the election-based union model promoted by organizations like CCOO and UGT, criticizing them for excessive bureaucracy and detachment from workers' needs.
The union advocates for "working-class unity, without distinction of affiliations," arguing that problems are common regardless of membership. Its working method relies on assemblies as a space for "decisive debate," aiming to organize workers directly, without intermediaries.
Currently, CSO has around a hundred delegates in the province of Alicante and in Valencia, with notable representation in companies such as Auesa (Elche urban buses), Masatusa (Alicante buses), Ayuda ambulances, Elche Hospital Cleaning, Fedex, Tempe, and the Miguel Hernández University, among others.
During the congress, outgoing spokesperson Vicente Alcaraz will present a document reviewing CSO's work methods, identifying inefficiencies and seeking to improve electoral representation to gain more influence in collective bargaining agreement negotiations.
The organization's accounts will also be presented, showing a "minuscule" subsidy of less than 3,000 euros exclusively for the resistance fund. The congress will also focus on strengthening sectors and their representatives, as well as addressing workplace health and feminism.
The event will conclude with the election of the new Executive Commission and the new general spokesperson. Prior to this, on May 15th, a panel discussion will be held with unions such as CTA from Andalusia, ASC, and FSOC to analyze the limitations of current unionism and propose ways to restore working-class unity.
