“"It should be noted that this plan is already outdated because it was prepared with data from 2021, a year when the effects of the pandemic were still being felt, and the figures collected are clearly lower than those currently recorded by the airport, as it should be remembered that the aerodrome closed 2025 with 19.9 million passengers, representing an 8.5 percent increase over the previous year."

The municipal group Compromís per Elx has urged the Ministry of Transport to implement measures outlined in the action plan against flight noise around Miguel Hernández Airport, particularly in the hamlets of El Altet and Torrellano.
The political party announced that it will submit a motion to the April plenary session to address this issue. According to the municipal spokesperson, the noise generated by flights poses a serious problem for local residents.
The Ministry of Transport approved an action plan in March 2022, linked to the strategic noise map of Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport. This strategy, mandatory for airports with over 50,000 operations under European Union regulations, aims to minimize the impact of airport infrastructure on nearby populations.
This increase in passenger traffic also implies a rise in acoustic pollution for the municipality's residents, especially in the hamlets adjacent to the runways and urbanizations such as Bonavista or Buenos Aires.
The municipal group emphasizes the need to ensure the effectiveness of the measures included in the plan. These include expanding the acoustic footprint to cover all affected populations, changing flight paths to reduce impact on densely populated areas, and renewing the aircraft fleet with quieter models.
Additionally, it is proposed to continue subsidies for soundproofing affected homes, increase monitoring with more measurement stations, and develop airport noise regulations. The group also requests that the Elx City Council report on the work carried out in the airport's environmental monitoring commission.
The Compromís motion also includes other demands from neighborhood associations, such as the creation of a green barrier around the airport to reduce noise and environmental pollution, the establishment of cycle and pedestrian access for workers, and the provision of free parking for these individuals.
