The Generalitat, through the Valencian Youth Institute (IVAJ), has announced a new cultural gathering in Orihuela, to be held in October, to bring the figure of Miguel Hernández closer to new generations.

This initiative, named “The Poet's Youth, a Tribute to Miguel Hernández,” will replace the traditional Poet's Path, which the autonomous body stopped organizing due to problems with the hiking route. The new format will take place at the Teatro Circo Atanasio Díe Marín, coinciding with the birth month of the Orihuela poet, October 30, 1910, and will be aimed at young and student audiences.

"The objective is to bring the figure and work of Miguel Hernández closer to new generations through current, participatory, and attractive cultural proposals."

The announcement comes after the IVAJ ceased to organize the historic hiking march that for years traversed different towns linked to the poet. According to the Generalitat, the decision was made after the withdrawal in 2025 of the homologation of the GR-125 trail by the Federation of Mountain Sports and Climbing of the Valencian Community (FEMECV), as it did not meet the required safety and signage conditions.
This circumstance prevented “guaranteeing the safety of participants,” to which was added the lower youth participation recorded in recent editions. Therefore, a change of approach has been advocated to adapt the activity to the current interests of the young population. The gathering will bring together nearly 1,000 young people from municipalities that usually participated in the old Poet's Path, including Orihuela, Redován, Callosa de Segura, Cox, Albatera, Crevillent, and Alicante.
In addition, the Miguel Hernández University of Elche and other educational and youth groups will collaborate. The Generalitat frames this new event within a broader strategy of support for the Hernandian legacy, maintaining a subsidy of 80,000 euros to the Miguel Hernández Cultural Foundation for the development of activities related to the poet.
