The Orihuela City Council has put out to tender the construction of a cycle-pedestrian route on Los Vicente road, in the district of La Murada, with the aim of improving road safety and access to the municipal sports center.

This initiative, promoted by the Department of Infrastructure and Maintenance, has a base budget of 253,862.59 euros (VAT included) and an estimated execution period of three months. Councillor Víctor Valverde emphasized the importance of this road, used daily by numerous residents, especially young people and families heading to sports facilities, which until now lacked adequate safety conditions.
According to the council, Los Vicente road currently features deteriorated pavement, irregularities posing a risk of falls, the absence of a specific pedestrian space, and insufficient lighting. The shared use of the space by vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians increases the danger of this access point.

"The intervention seeks to reinforce safety and accessibility in the district, while improving the quality of the urban environment. This action is part of the municipal strategy to strengthen infrastructure in the districts and advance equality of services among the different nuclei of the municipality."

The project includes the creation of an accessible and signposted cycle-pedestrian lane approximately 1.80 meters wide, separated from road traffic. Additionally, the road will be completely repaved with bituminous mixtures to improve surface regularity and traffic safety. Planned actions also include the modernization of public lighting with more efficient LED luminaires, the relocation of lighting columns, and the installation of new horizontal and vertical signage, separating elements, and cat's eyes.
This initiative will be developed in different sections of Los Vicente road to adapt to the characteristics of each area and will include interventions on existing services, such as the relocation of electrical elements linked to public lighting. The municipal government team highlights that this intervention will reinforce safety and accessibility, enhancing the quality of life in the district.
