Orihuela City Council and the Official Medical Association of Alicante have signed a collaboration agreement to promote joint actions in public health, focusing on dissemination, health education, and citizen protection.
The agreement, signed by the Mayor of Orihuela, Pepe Vegara, and the Councilor for Health, Irene Celdrán, along with the president of the professional association, Dr. Hermann Schwarz, and the general secretary, Dr. José Manuel Peris, establishes a common framework for developing initiatives aimed at the Orihuela population.
Planned actions include informative campaigns on health-related issues and educational initiatives. These actions seek to improve citizen knowledge and promote healthy lifestyle habits. The agreement focuses on prevention, awareness, and access to rigorous, evidence-based health information.
Furthermore, both institutions will collaborate to address misleading health advertising and practices without scientific evidence, such as pseudotherapies. These practices can generate false expectations or even pose a risk to individuals. In this area, the agreement aims to detect such situations and, if necessary, report them to the competent authorities.
“
"This agreement represents a firm step in defending our neighbors' health, advocating for truthful information, scientific rigor, and prevention against practices that can cause confusion or endanger citizens."
The text also includes coordination to prevent the celebration of pseudoscientific activities or events in the municipality that lack scientific backing, with the aim of strengthening citizen protection. It also promotes mediation as a means of resolving conflicts in the field of public health.
“
"Collaboration with the Official Medical Association of Alicante allows us to strengthen our public health policies and bring evidence-based health education campaigns and prevention tools closer to citizens."
The agreement is a framework agreement, which will allow for the development of specific agreements detailing the projects and programs to be launched, as well as the necessary resources for their execution. To oversee its compliance, a joint Mixed Commission will be established, responsible for coordinating, evaluating, and ensuring the follow-up of the planned actions.
