The acclaimed musical The Sound of Music, a large-scale production, will stop in Torrevieja with three unique performances at the Teatro Municipal on April 10 and 11, promising emotion and spectacularity.

Under the direction of Silvia Villaú, this new version of The Sound of Music is presented as a faithful reinterpretation of the original spirit, but with a contemporary scenic language. The goal is to connect with both regular genre audiences and new generations, combining careful artistic direction, a cast of prominent national musical theater performers, and a technical deployment that equates it to major international productions.
The story, based on the memoirs of Maria von Trapp, retains its ability to move audiences. It tells the life of a young novice who finds her place as a governess in the home of Captain Von Trapp, transforming the household with music and affection in a turbulent historical context, with the threat of Nazism looming over Austria in the 1930s.
The play debuted on Broadway in 1959, winning five Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Its leap to cinema in 1965 solidified its global status, achieving five Academy Awards, including Best Picture. Songs like Do-re-mi or Climb every mountain are part of the collective imagination, transcending generations and borders.
One of the great attractions of this production is its visual display. The set design transports the viewer to 1930s Austria with a level of detail that spans from the Nonnberg convent to the Von Trapp residence and the alpine landscapes. The lighting and audiovisual resources enhance the sense of immersion, creating a scenic experience that is not only heard but lived.
The performances in Torrevieja are scheduled for Friday, April 10, at 8 PM, and Saturday, April 11, in a double session, at 5 PM and 8:30 PM. These three opportunities will allow the public to reconnect with a story that, decades after its premiere, continues to appeal to universal values such as freedom, love, and resilience in the face of adversity.
