The Department of Social Welfare of the Orihuela City Council, in collaboration with the LiberTEA association, is organizing the conference 'Autism: from classrooms to life' next Saturday, May 16 at the La Lonja Auditorium.

This awareness and training initiative, with free admission until full capacity, seeks to advance in the inclusion, visibility, and support for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their families.

"ASD is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects the configuration of the nervous system and brain function, characterized by difficulties in communication, social interaction, and flexibility of thought and behavior."

It is estimated that autism is present in 1% of the population, and although each person manifests it differently, all share difficulties related to the development of social and communicative skills. From the Department of Social Welfare, the purpose is to promote measures to raise awareness about the right of people with autism and their families to enjoy a full life, especially during childhood and adolescence.
The conference will feature nationally recognized speakers. One of the conferences will be 'Autism in the first person', offered by a prominent figure in the field of autism and neurodiversity, who was diagnosed with ASD-1 at 41 years old. Her experience led her to create a community to share her knowledge and help eliminate stigmas and break myths.
Also participating will be a comprehensive professional in the field of child and youth development, recognized as one of the best teachers in the country, who will give the presentation 'Superheroes in EducACCIÓN'. This expert is a psychologist and speech therapist, a Primary Education teacher specializing in Hearing and Language, Therapeutic Pedagogy, and Physical Education, and holds a master's degree in socio-educational intervention and research.
The main objective of this conference is to raise public awareness about the phenomenon of autism, to publicize the reality of people with ASD, and to provide tools to professionals and families to address any difficulties that may arise.

"This conference is born with the firm purpose of focusing on education as a driving force for change, committing to offering tools, experiences, and promoting real advances in the quality of life of people with autism."
