The Orihuela City Council has put out to tender a new municipal tow truck service which, for the first time, includes a permanent operational unit in Orihuela Costa, aiming to improve incident response in the coastal area.

This new provision will allow the coast to have a fixed tow truck with a driver and stable personnel at the Emergency and Security Center, thus avoiding displacements from the urban center that until now slowed down incident attention. The Councilor for Citizen Security and Contracting explained that the new contract covers the comprehensive provision of the service throughout the municipal area, including the immobilization, removal, transfer, and management of abandoned vehicles in both Orihuela city and its districts, as well as on the coast.

"The current contract, which expires in August, required tow trucks to depart from Orihuela city to attend any call on the coast, which generated excessively long response times."

The new tender divides the service into two differentiated operational units, albeit with joint management: one for Orihuela city and its districts, and another permanent one for Orihuela Costa. The ordinary service will operate daily between 6:00 AM and 10:00 PM, while night service will be provided on demand. Additionally, the contract sets a maximum response time of 15 minutes in both Orihuela city and on the coast, and 30 minutes for districts and night service.
The tender also includes the existence of two municipal depots, one at the Orihuela Local Police Headquarters and another at the Orihuela Costa Emergency and Security Center. Likewise, the awarded company must have an authorized alternative depot located less than ten kilometers from Orihuela city to transfer vehicles that remain for more than fifteen days in municipal facilities.
The contract has an annual budget of 493,324.14 euros, including VAT, and will have an initial duration of three years with the possibility of two annual extensions. The City Council maintains that the new tender will improve road safety, mobility, and the operational capacity of the Local Police throughout the municipality.

"The creation of a permanent tow truck on the coast was a highly demanded and absolutely necessary service to improve attention and response to incidents in Orihuela Costa."
