The Department of Parks and Gardens of the Torrevieja City Council has undertaken new improvement and maintenance works at the Aromatic Park, one of the city's most unique green spaces. The interventions aim to reinforce its landscape and environmental value through the incorporation of new Mediterranean species and the enhancement of various areas within the grounds.
The park, covering an area of nearly 70,000 square meters, stands as a reference point for residents, visitors, athletes, and nature lovers. Its proximity to the natural environment of La Mata, along with its trails and rest areas, solidifies it as one of Torrevieja's primary green lungs.
Among the most notable actions is the planting of thyme, lavender, and rosemary, three aromatic species native to the Mediterranean landscape. These plants are characterized by their resistance to dry climates, their ornamental value, and their ability to attract pollinating insects.
Thyme, a representative species of the Mediterranean scrubland, is known for its intense aroma and resistance to high temperatures and water scarcity, being particularly favored by bees and other pollinators during its flowering. Lavender, recognized for its purplish hues and fragrance, adds ornamental value and contributes to an attractive landscape for much of the year, also attracting pollinators. Rosemary, a well-known and hardy aromatic plant, thrives even during periods of severe drought, and its blooms provide a food source for beneficial insects.
In addition to the plantings, municipal teams have installed and improved irrigation systems in various parts of the park. The goal is to promote the proper development of vegetation and optimize water usage, fostering a more efficient and sustainable management of the green space.
The work also included pruning, cleaning, brush clearing, and conditioning tasks in the green areas surrounding nearby residences. These efforts enhance the overall appearance of the environment, promote healthy vegetation growth, and maintain suitable conditions for residents and users.
Through these initiatives, Torrevieja's Aromatic Park continues to establish itself as a green landmark in the city, offering a space where nature, biodiversity, and outdoor leisure coexist throughout the year.
